Meridian57 is a web directory assembled on the principle of the library card catalogue: every listed site occupies one card, one drawer, one heading. The project began as an exercise in bringing reference-library discipline to the open web — a domain that accumulates entries without classification. Eight hundred and thirty-nine sites are currently on file across twenty-two subject drawers, from Gaming and Health Sciences to the broad Miscellany drawer that accommodates listings that cross subject boundaries.
Submission to Meridian57 is free and open to any website whose principal content can be mapped to one of the established headings. A reviewer reads each submission before the card is accepted, checking that the domain resolves, that the declared subject matches the site, and that the entry does not duplicate an existing card in the index. Approved submissions are filed alphabetically within their subject drawer.
The catalogue is maintained by a small team committed to keeping the index accurate and navigable. Cards are periodically reviewed; sites that have lapsed or materially changed their subject are removed or reclassified. The aim is not comprehensiveness but coherence — a directory you can browse with confidence that the entries are what they claim to be.
Meridian57 does not sell placement, sort entries by fee, or distinguish between large operators and individual practitioners. Every approved card stands on equal footing within its drawer. This approach reflects the ethos of the reference catalogue: the subject heading matters; the size of the entity behind the card does not.
If you operate a website and believe it belongs in one of the twenty-two drawers, the submission form is available from any page in the index. Once filed, your card will be reviewed and, if approved, added to the appropriate section of the catalogue.
